P.A.C.E. PROGRAM CRITERIA
I. APPLICATION INFORMATION: If you wish to offer P.A.C.E. credit
each program is to:
A. Be a structured learning experience.
B. Be sure content of program is related to clinical laboratory
science or in the ASCLS Body of Knowledge.
C. Submit the following documentation to the ASCLS-PA P.A.C.E.
Administrator at least 30 days before the program is to be
offered:
1. P.A.C.E. PROGRAM/SPEAKER INFORMATION FORM – Consists of
the proposed title, brief speaker information, description
of session, level of instruction, measurable learning
objectives using appropriate action verbs, program time
table and contact hours.
2. P.A.C.E. Speaker Credential Form – Speaker should have a
background and the experience necessary to teach the
subject.
3. A brochure/flyer announcing the program that contains the
following documentation:
- Measureable objectives
- Speaker’s qualifications
- Schedule/time table
- Level of program (basic, intermediate, advanced)
- Fee, if applicable
- Number of contact hours
- This statement: ASCLS-PA is approved as a Provider of
continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory
sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. Program.
*NOTE: If the flyer is not available when the P.A.C.E.
Program speaker information and speaker credential forms are
submitted, return it with the attendance rosters and program
evaluation forms.
II. P.A.C.E. PROGRAM EVALUATION FORM: Consists of four (4)
categories:
A. Speaker rating
B. Measurable objectives submitted are typed
C. Program content rating
D. Comments
*NOTE: To determine the number of contact hours to request
for a lecture, use the following guidelines:
- 1 contact hour is given for every hour (50 minutes) of
instruction
- the minimum length of a program for which contact hours
are requested must be 50 minutes (1 contact hour)
- maximum length of program for one day is seven (7) hours
(7 contact hours) - you may not include break time or lunch
as part of the program time.
The following activities do not qualify for P.A.C.E. credit:
1. Association membership or certification programs
2. Committee meetings
3. Academic credit programs
4. Entertainment and recreation
5. Sales presentations
III. RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSON/GROUP OFFERING THE PROGRAM
- See that the P.A.C.E. Attendance roster is filled out by
every person who attends including non-members.
- At the start of the program, give each attendee a
Certificate of Attendance and a P.A.C.E. Program Evaluation
Form. Announce the Program Number and the Program Title.
- At the end of the program give a P.A.C.E. validation
sticker to each person (non-members also) who requests one.
Collect the P.A.C.E. program evaluation forms.
- Within one week following the program, mail to the ASCLS-PA P.A.C.E. Administrator:
- - Attendance Rosters
- - Evaluation Forms
- - Any unused validation stickers
- - Program brochure/flyer (if it was not previously
submitted with the P.A.C.E. Program/Speaker Information
Form and P.A.C.E. Speaker Credential Form).
IV. UNDERSTANDING THE P.A.C.E. NUMBER
First 3 digits: The Provider number (ASCLS-PA number is 012)
Middle 3 digits: The Program Number, assigned sequentially
as they are received by the P.A.C.E.
Administrator
Last 2 digits: The Year
PROGRAM LEVEL CRITERIA:
BASIC: no prior knowledge necessary
INTERMEDIATE: 1-5 years experience in the
discipline necessary
ADVANCED: greater than 5 years experience
necessary
WRITING MEASURABLE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Four main parts of a measurable learning objective:
AUDIENCE: For who is the program intended?
ACTION: What is the participant supposed to be
able to do as a result of the program?
CONDITIONS: What initial set of criteria is the
participant given?
DEGREE: How well is the participant expected to
be able to perform the action at the end of the program?
SAMPLE OBJECTIVE:
At the conclusion of this session, the participant will
be able to:
Discuss the current approaches to laboratory
diagnosis of HIV infection.
