Full Time-Day Shift Position
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has
a full-time day shift Medical Technologist position available in the
Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. The laboratory provides specialized
clinical services to a network of pediatricians within the organization
as well as referring institutions. The ideal candidate is a motivated
team member that prefers a busy, challenging and expanding laboratory
work environment. Responsibilites include bacteriology, mycology,
mycobacteriology and parasitology. The position also offers an
opportunity to participate in quality improvement initiatives,
continuing education and career development programs. A BS is required,
with ASCP (or equivalent) preferred. Familiarity with laboratory
computer systems and basic PC skills are necessary. One year of
microbiology laboratory experience preferred. Experience in the any of
the following is valuable: pediatric microbiology, cystic fibrosis
microbiology, Vitek2, and Meditech LIS. The successful candidate will
have strong motivation with excellent communication and problem-solving

Weekend Day shift Position
Also available is an every other weekend day shift
position with the primary responsibility of processing clinical
specimens received in the Microbiology Laboratory. Responsibilities
include assessing and resolving specimen quality issues, data entry,
rapid assays, administrative functions, and other operational and
testing duties. A minimum of 1 year previous clinical laboratory
experience is preferred. Prior experience processing specimens for
microbiological analysis is especially helpful. Interested candidates

To organize, coordinate and supervise all quality
assurance activities in the Division of Transfusion
Medicine.
To lead the development, implementation and
evaluation of quality assurance programs designed to
ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting
agencies, as well as organizational policies.
Maintain, monitor and support the achievement of
effective quality programs to guarantee a safe and
efficacious blood supply for patients, a safe
donation process for donors and quality laboratory
testing utilizing good laboratory practices and good
manufacturing practices.
• Must have a B.S. MT(ASCP) and five years of Blood
Bank experience. SBB or advanced degree preferred.
Donor Center experience is desirable.
• Certification as an Auditor by the American
Society for Quality (ASQ) or the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) is preferred,
and will be required within 1 year of hire.
• Experience as an Assessor with the AABB and as
part of a CAP Inspection Team is preferred.
• Additional skills that are highly desired are:
• Demonstrated experience working with and knowledge
of the AABB, FDA, CAP, FACT, JCAHO and HCFA
regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to perform statistical and
trend analysis, including the use of Access
Databases, Excel Spreadsheets, charts and graphs.
• Experience in teaching and training.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
with effective leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, to
meet deadlines efficiently, to perform multiple
tasks simultaneously and to be highly motivated.
