The Student Representative shall be elected by majority vote of
student members attending the Student Forum held during the annual
State meeting. The elected representative shall take office July 1,
following the election. If no student forum is held, the
representative shall be appointed by the President.
DUTIES:
1. Work closely with the current Student Representative from the
time of election until July 1, in order to become familiar with the
responsibilities of the position.
2. Must attend at least two
ASCLS-PA Board meetings throughout his/her term of
office.
3. Write to education coordinators and District Presidents
throughout the State as early as possible to obtain names of local
student representatives.
4. Correspond with these local representatives, informing them of
ASCLS-PA activities as well as Regional and National
Student Forum activities.
5. Send copies of all correspondence to the Regional Student
Representative, to the
ASCLS-PA President, and to the Student Advisor.
6. Keep student members informed of activities at National, Regional
and the State level by publishing
articles in the Pennsylvania Newsletter or Student Forum Newsletter.
7. The outgoing Student Representative should attend the ASCLS
annual meeting as a voting delegate at the end of his or her term of
office. Funding for the hotel, flight and registration is
conditional upon approval of the
ASCLS-PA Board of Directors and the satisfactory
completion of his/her duties as Student Representative.
8. The incoming Student Representative should also attend the ASCLS
annual meeting. He/She will not be a voting delegate unless the
outgoing representative is unable to attend. Funding for one half
of the flight, one half of the hotel and one half of the
registration is conditional upon approval of the
ASCLS-PA Board of Directors.
9. Shall submit a report of activities to the President, Student
Advisor, Regional Student Representative, and Student Forum Chair at
least one month prior to the Board of Directors Meetings.
10. Work with Career Recruitment Committee to encourage and develop
medical technology clubs in the pre-clinical MT/CLS and MLT/CLT
programs, and to provide information on resumes, interviews, etc.
11. Communicate frequently with education coordinators to encourage
student membership.
12. Coordinate and organize student activities at State and Local
levels.
13. Serve as consultant to Program Committee for the
Spring meeting to organize student
programs.
14. Actively organize two programs for student members, one in the
Fall and one in the Spring.
PROCEDURE FOR APPOINTMENT OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES
1. Announce the position opening along with the nominations for
elected officers. Explain the responsibilities and opportunities of
the representative students have to be aware that the position
exists and what it entails before they will volunteer.
2. Contact College Advisors, Med. Tech. Clubs and Education
Coordinators and solicit the names of students who they feel would
be interested in serving as Student Representative.
3. The student selected should have the interest and motivation to
be an active representative and able to devote the time necessary to
organize student activities.
4. The Student Representative in the Chapter may be at the
Sophomore through Senior level of study.
This allows them a year to become familiar with the Society and gain
experience needed to serve well as State Representative, if they
were interested in that position.
5. The Student Representative and the Chapter and State levels
should be chosen at the same time as the officers. This allows the
incoming Representative to work with the current one to prepare for
the coming year. In this way, programs can be organized for the
full year, not just in the spring.
