About Us
ASCLS- Pennsylvania is a professional organization for health care professionals working in the field of clinical laboratory science in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. ASCLS - Pennsylvania is a state affiliate organization of ASCLS (The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science), belonging to Region II, along with New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Chartered in 1935, ASCLS - Pennsylvania also has 8 local affiliates (called "chapters") which help to service the members in the far reaching points of our state.
ASCLS - Pennsylvania is governed by a Board of Directors which hold quarterly meetings and an Annual Business Meeting which is held once a year. The Annual Business Meeting is the final governing body which is made up of members from throughout the state who attend. Likewise, each of the chapter affiliates is governed by a local Board of Directors.

Purpose of Society
Our primary purpose is to provide an organization whereby our members can be advocates for quality laboratory testing.
- ASCLS - Pennsylvania wants all of its members to remain competent in this ever-changing technological environment. Therefore, ASCLS - Pennsylvania is a major sponsor of continuing education for professionals who perform laboratory testing, along with a number of funded scholarship opportunities.
- ASCLS - Pennsylvania wants the general public to be safe and confident that the laboratory testing performed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is accurate and reliable. Therefore, ASCLS - Pennsylvania is working with the State Assembly to ensure that licensure of laboratory professionals is a reality. ASCLS - Pennsylvania also regularly monitors state/federal government issues which may impact the clinical laboratory profession in Pennsylvania.
- ASCLS - Pennsylvania wants the general public to be educated about their health and to take an active role in their health care. Therefore, ASCLS - Pennsylvania, in cooperation with ASCLS and many other national organizations, provides educational materials for distribution regarding health education disease prevention.
- ASCLS - Pennsylvania works to encourage high school and college students to consider careers in the laboratory sciences as a viable option for a long term career.
